0 On two simple criteria for recognizing complete intersections in codimension 2
Developing a previous idea of Faltings, we characterize the complete intersections of codimension 2 in P n , n ≥ 3, over an algebraically closed field of any characteristic, among l.c.i. X, as those that are subcanonical and scheme-theoretically defined by p ≤ n − 1 equations. Moreover we give some other results assuming that X is smooth and a numerical complete intersection, p ≤ n and the char...

متن کاملOn the computation of Hilbert series and Poincare series for algebras with infinite Grobner bases
In this paper we present algorithms to compute finite state automata which, given any rational language, recognize the languages of normal words and n-chains. We also show how these automata can be used to compute the Hilbert series and Poincaré series for any algebra with a rational set of leading words of its minimal Gröbner basis.
متن کاملHilbert Scheme of a Pair of Codimension Two Linear Subspaces
We study the component Hn of the Hilbert scheme whose general point parameterizes a pair of codimension two linear subspaces in Pn for n ≥ 3. We show that Hn is smooth and isomorphic to the blow-up of the symmetric square of G(n−2, n) along the diagonal. Further Hn intersects only one other component in the full Hilbert scheme, transversely. We determine the stable base locus decomposition of i...
متن کاملEliminating Higher-Multiplicity Intersections, III. Codimension 2
We study conditions under which a finite simplicial complex K can be mapped to R without higher-multiplicity intersections. An almost r-embedding is a map f : K → R such that the images of any r pairwise disjoint simplices of K do not have a common point. We show that if r is not a prime power and d ≥ 2r + 1, then there is a counterexample to the topological Tverberg conjecture, i.e., there is ...
